Cuba - Regions - Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo

Cayo Coco and the smaller Cayo Guillermo are islands about thirty kilometres off the North coast of Cuba, connected to the mainland by a causeway. The island is also service by an airport, which has direct flights from other parts of Cuba. On the Islands are a number of all-inclusive beach hotels offering a very high standard of service. These are ideal as a destination beach resort to Cuba or as part of a round trip to relax.

HOTELS AND MOTELS

Tryp Cayo Coco

One of Cuba's largest 'All inclusive resorts', and has colonial wooden style buildings surrounded by lush tropical gardens. It is set between a 3km sandy beach and a natural lagoon. All 440 rooms are air-conditioned, and offer full bathroom, satellite TV, phone, mini fridge, safe box, and either a terrace or balcony. The resort has two swimming pools; a pool bar; 3 grills and two buffet restaurants. Sports facilities include tennis, volleyball, bicycles and a gym. Water-sports include scuba diving, catamarans, and windsurfing. The resort has its own nightclub.

Melia Cayo Coco

Opened in 1999. The hotel has 250 bedrooms, some of which are built over the sea. All the air-conditioned bedrooms have full bathroom, satellite TV, phone, mini fridge, safe box and either a terrace or balcony. There are two swimming pools, both with children's areas, and a Jacuzzi. In addition to the main buffet restaurant there is an 'a la carte' Italian restaurant, a seafood restaurant over the sea, and grill barbecue on the beach. Water sports are available from the hotel, and there are tennis courts and a gym.

Covarrubias

Is the only Hotel in the Las Tunas province of Cuba on the North Coast. The Hotel is about two hours drive from the city of Holguin which has direct flights from Havana, Europe and Canada. The hotel is ideal for those wishing to really relax, it is set on a long white sandy beach with very good swimming. Scuba diving, fishing and horse riding can be easily organised through the hotel reception. The Scuba diving instructor is well known in Cuba for his shark feeding, so for those who have already dived before this is a fascinating thing to see. This is on a reef quite some way from the hotel, but well worth the trip.

The 122 bedrooms all have en-suite shower rooms, satellite TV, direct dial telephones, a fridge and a safebox. The bedrooms are spread out in villas all over the hotel gardens. Behind the hotel and nearby beaches are various lagoons full of flamingos and other birdlife, the nature in this part of Cuba has hardly been disturbed. The hotel restaurant serves a good buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. Snacks can be organised at the pool bar all day. The hotel has a late night bar in a thatched cabana built over the water on the mouth of the lagoon, which has music and dancing.
