Guardalavaca is another good beach resort a short distance from Playa Esmeralda and about an hour's drive from Holguin Airport. The beach here is very good offering very good swimming protected by coral reefs, excellent snorkelling and Scuba diving, and some great deep-sea fishing.

Las Brisas Club Resort and Villas

Set at the end of the white, palm lined beach at Guardalavaca. The hotel was refurbished in 1999 and the villas where built new in 1999, giving the Brisas Club a fresh new feel. The hotel is a relaxed fun hotel ideal for families and groups of friends of all ages. The hotel and villas are set in two adjacent tropical gardens, each with a large swimming pools and direct access to the beach and clear sea beyond. Water-sports can be arranged on the beach or at the nearby marina. These include windsurfing, sailing, kayaks, paddle-boats, and catamarans. Motorised water-sports are available at an extra cost locally. Other local sports include horse riding ($) and bicycles.

The main hotel bedrooms have great views over the sea or the gardens and tropical countryside beyond. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with bath, shower and hairdryer. The bedrooms have satellite TV, safe boxes (US$2 per day), air-conditioning, fridge and direct dial phone. The hotel has a number of restaurants and bars all offering different themes allowing you a good choice during your stay, buffets, grills, Italian, seafood and snack-bars depending on your mood. As an added bonus guests can eat in other Cubanacan hotels in the area at no extra charge, subject to their package. There is entertainment by the hotel swimming pool each night after dinner, creating a buzzy focus to the hotel. The hotel's disco is open from 11.00pm till 2.00am. There is another disco, La Roca a short walk from the hotel and villas near the beach.

Las Brisas Villas

Two or three story villas with individual bedrooms all with their own entrance. The villas are laid out around the tropical gardens overlooking the swimming pool, gardens, sea or beach. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a bath with shower hairdryer, satellite TV, air-conditioning, direct dial telephone, fridge, safe box (US$2 per day).
