Options for any free time in Havana:

Havana has a mass of things one can do. We have included a few of them here as options that we can arrange for you. If possible let us know on info@incloud9.com as soon as you know that you would like to do something in particular, alternatively please call our Havana office on +537 8606104 / 5. We have put some indication prices, but these may vary depending on how many people want to do each thing.

Club Havana beach and country club is about 20 minutes away from the hotel and offers a good spot for lunch, watersports, relaxing on the beach, tennis, a gym, and massage. Entrance to the club is 15CUCs per person entrance and you will need at least one passport per party entering to leave at reception while you are at the club. Food and drink at the club is good value, and the facilities pretty good.

Gangster and Molls were part of the furniture back in pre-revolutionary Cuba. We have tracked down some of the Old Cantaneros, the top barmen of this 20s to 50s period, who are still alive and remember the days of Hemingway, Mayer Lanski, Al Capone, Frank Sinatra and Erol Flynne, all of whom frequented Havana. One of these old chaps can organise a drinks party with a talk about the good ole days and some of the stories that he remembers first hand. This would cost around 10CUCs per person plus drinks. This would normally take place in the Bar El Golfo in the Hotel Nacional where they have a gallery of all the famous people who have stayed there.

50’s car tour. We can arrange a tour around modern Havana, 50s Havana and some of the old wealthy suburbs in fifties cars. This is a great way to see the city and real does feel like you have gone back in time. This would cost around 7CUCs per person based on four per hard top car and 9CUC per person in a soft top car. We would recommend setting a course so that the cars all meet up at various bars en-route for cocktails.

Deep sea Fishing off Havana is considered to be pretty good. Some extremely big marlin, sailfish and other record holding fish have been caught right in front of Havana. The sea is 1100 metres deep withing half a kilometre of the shore!!! The fishing boats are based at Marina Tarara or Marina Hemingway and cost around 250 – 300CUCs per four hour trip. It is normally best to leave at around 7.30 or 8.00am to get the best results.

Scuba diving can be arranged right in Havana at the Copacabana Hotel. There is an old ship wreck not far from the shore and plenty of things to see, who know you may even find some gold coins and pay for your trip?

This generally costs around 35CUCs per dive inc the rental of the equipment which is not to much.

Cigar Factories in Havana are not only interesting to cigar smokers. The factories still make all of the cigars by hand and the processes are very labour intensive and carefully monitored for quality control. The tour normally starts around 9.00 – 930 and takes around an hour. The coast is about 10CUCs in the Factory plus taxi of about 4CUCs per taxi. The best two factories are the Partagas and La Carona which both have good shops and are in Old Havana near the Parque Central.

Tarpon fishing. The fly fishing in Cuba is some of the best and most unspoiled in the world. One of the most exciting is Tarpon which are similar to very big and strong salmon. There is good tarpon fishing on the Rio Hataguanico which is about one hour and ten minutes out of town. The boats take two fishermen and cost around 250CUCs for the day. It is best to leave Havana t around 6.30am to get the best fishing in in the morning. It is worth taking a fly rod of about 12 –14 weight and a spinning rod as there are plenty of fish.

Boat trip on Rio Hataguanico is another option for fishermen and non fishermen as this is a leisurely trip down the river on a larger boat which should take around 16 people. Here you will see birdlife masses of other wildlife and even crocodiles if you are quiet. It really is like being on the Amazon. This usually costs around 30CUCs per person plus food and drink for a good day trip. It is best to take a picnic lunch that can be organised with some warning.
